A local University has the following position available:

The Public Safety Communications/Dispatch Officer receives and transmits information via campus radio and telephone systems.  Monitors fire alarm systems as well as CCTV cameras. Dispatches Public Safety Officers during routine and emergency situations. Work involves dealing with the public in person and by telephone; sometimes during very stressful periods. Maintains a detailed activity log of all public safety actions.

 Performs other administrative functions related to Parking Enforcement, Identification Issuance, Access Control, Campus Switchboard Operations, and Records Maintenance.

 Interact on a daily basis with a student population of approximately 2,000 and other members of the Campus community on matters related to safety and security, parking enforcement, ID cards and access control to campus facilities. Key customers served by the communications/dispatch function also include local authorities, police and fire officials.

 The Communications Officer positions involve regular and irregular shift work and shift rotations necessary to provide emergency and non-emergency dispatching/ call taking 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year (weekends and holidays included). Work shifts are normally eight (8) hours in duration but may be extended in the event of emergency, disaster, staffing shortage, workload or work-in-progress. High percentage of attendance, on­ time arrival to work and ability to work overtime when necessary are required.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • Two years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience that demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities to perform the job.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point, Email, Internet and experience with data entry.
  • Must be detailed oriented, demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in work output and should have experience in communicating effectively to a diverse
  • Demonstrate customer service skills and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Must be able to pass a stringent background
